Dr. Alan Zollman grew up on a modest farm in rural Indiana, beginning his education in a two-room schoolhouse. Today Alan is Distinguished Research Professor of Secondary Mathematics Education at Indiana University Southeast. He is past president of the School Science and Mathematics Association, past vice-president of the Research Council on Mathematics Learning, and faculty emeritus of Northern Illinois University’s Department of Mathematical Sciences. He is an influential and prolific mathematics education researcher whose work has been cited in academic journals over 1,200 times.
Alan is a father to two girls and grandfather to two boys. His wife, also a past public school teacher, maintains a hopeful outlook that he will grow up one day.
Dr. Lisa Hoffman is a Professor of Education at Indiana University Southeast, where she also serves as an administrator for enrollment and school partnerships. She is an educational researcher who studies STEM teacher development and multilingual learners’ education. She also mentors educators in research methods and has received honors for service learning and community engagement. She has had the privilege of teaching children and adults of multiple ages, cultures, and educational stages across five states and three countries.
Lisa is a hodophile and a nemophilist who lives in Kentucky with her husband, four fascinating teenagers and young adults, and eccentric dogs Banjo and Derby.
Dr. Emily KyungJin Suh is an award-winning researcher and an Associate Professor of Postsecondary Student Success at Texas State University, where she also coordinates a developmental education program in learning, literacy, and mathematics. She has taught students ranging from infants and toddlers to doctoral students and senior citizens in family literacy programs, adult education centers, elementary and high schools, and community colleges and universities.
Emily and her husband are honored to parent five vivacious STEM SMARTIEs who daily teach her lessons on the importance of life, laughter and love.
